ESTCOURT: Racers glad to be back behind the wheel

Strict Covid-19 regulations were adhered to, and the usual cheers of spectators along the route were not heard

All roads led to Underberg last Saturday, as off-road racing enthusiasts converged to compete.

With Covid-19 restrictions, racing events had to be cancelled, but it was with great zest that participants from across the country took to the course in Underberg.

The competitors had missed out on three prior races, so the teams were able to catch up on points on Saturday, when the race was divided into two events.

13 cars were in the competition, and the racing conditions were said to be perfect.

Among the drivers and navigators were some local faces.

Shawn Braithwaite, who is a regular competitor, said it was a fantastic weekend of racing and great to be back in the car.

The races are held by the Natal Off-Road Motor Club, which has been hosting off-road racing events in KZN since 1983. The next off-road race will be held in Hlathikulu in October.
