Complaints after SASSA declines applications for Covid-19 grant

The majority of declined applications are from people who are already on the UIF database...

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released a statement saying they have received complaints with regards to declined R350 grant applications.

According to KZN SASSA spokesperson Sandy Godlwana, the majority of declined applications are from people who are already on the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) database or qualifying to receive it.

The media statement further revealed that in this case, applicants are advised to contact the Department of Employment & Labour to either apply for UIF or to follow up with their applications.

Godlwana explained that, to qualify for the Covid-19 grant, a person must be either unemployed without any kind of income, or not be receiving any kind of government assistance such as UIF and NSFAS, or social grants or any other financial support, and must be above the age of 18.

“Those who feel aggrieved should either call 0800601011 or email srd@sassa.gov.za with their complaints in order to access the recourse mechanism,” said Godlwana in the media statement.
