Vryheid KZN: Athletes and riders are ready

Mountain bikers will start and finish at Petras Guest House, and will start one minute apart to ensure that there will be no congestion at the start or finish

After the horrible but necessary August winds (hope they are over now), runners and cyclists are excited to run and ride in the beautiful plantations of Vryheid on the newly-developed single tracks. It’s trail running season again and Vryheid Athletic Club athletes are looking forward to getting some dirt on their tekkies! The new version of the Virtual Michaelis Challenge is being hosted this year and the exciting news is that any athlete or walker will have the opportunity to take part, because it can be done in your own time during the month of September. After completing the challenge, you can then just submit it online. There are opportunities to do a 5km walk / run, 10km walk / run or 21km run, either on the trail or on tar. Or why not be over-enthusiastic and do more than one event? Athletes are spoilt for choice this year. For the cyclists, there are also 10km, 20km and 50km distances, with a choice between your own or a set route available on a gpx map. For more information and to enter online, please visit www.michaelischallenge.co.za Saturday morning runs and rides are getting more popular as the morning temperatures warm up slightly and the sun also rises earlier. It’s time to get out of bed and face the spring weather. See you on the tracks. On September 12, there will also be the very first Mountain bike Covid-19 safe race in the Vryheid area, with all Covid-19 precautions in place. Mountain bikers will start and finish at Petras Guest House, and will start one minute apart to ensure that there will be no congestion at the start or finish.
