Friends narrowly escape death after ambush on Weenen road

No arrests have been made and police are calling on anyone with information that could help the investigation to contact them

Estcourt police are investigating a case of attempted murder after two friends narrowly escaped with their lives while travelling on the Weenen road.

On July 7 at about 7.30pm, the men were heading towards Weenen from Estcourt when two people appeared on the road and started shooting at the vehicle.

“They just started firing at them, without saying anything and without any provocation,” said police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi.

The driver quickly steered off in a different direction, which saved their lives.

“No one was shot and only one victim suffered minor bruises in the process,” added Captain Nyathi.

No arrests have been made and police are calling on anyone with information that could help the investigation to contact them.

“Information can be supplied by dialling the 08600-10111 toll-free number or by using the ‘MySAPS’ App,” concluded Captain Nyathi.
