Multiple accidents see three people dead

The Vryheid Herald extends its condolences to all the families of the deceased

Multiple accidents have occurred in and around Vryheid during the last week, varying from minor to more serious and even fatal crashes.
Three people have died in two separate motor vehicle accidents.
One woman lost her life during a collision on the corner of Stretch and South streets when a bakkie smashed into the side of her vehicle, which in turn caused the car to slam against a traffic light pole.
Another two people died during a collision between a heavy duty truck and a light truck on the Kambula road. One person was crushed inside the light duty truck, while another was flung from the heavy duty truck and died on impact.
On the R69 after the Louwsburg turn-off, a bakkie veered off the road and rolled.
Emergency services were inundated with calls and were unable to respond immediately. Bystanders succeeded in deploying an emergency helicopter from Durban, and one of the local emergency services managed to deploy an ambulance.
The two occupants of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and it was decided to transport the most critical patient by helicopter for further care.
During another collision on the R34 at Strachcona, two vehicles collided when the one vehicle tried to overtake and the other vehicle then turned into them on the side where a nine-year-old girl was seated.
This caused the grandmother to lose control of the vehicle and they veered off the road over a five-metre embankment, where a culvert brought the vehicle to a stop. The girl sustained moderate injuries and was taken to hospital.
The Vryheid Herald extends its condolences to all the families of the deceased.
