Besides the action on the soccer field, there were lots to see and do at the family fun day

The Weston Derby & Family Fun Day 2019 took place on December 26 at the Weston sports fields in Mooi River. The event was extended to a family fun day to accommodate the rest of the community, from the youngest to the eldest.

Entertainment included jumping castles for the little ones, all-day-long music by DJ Robza from Pumlas in Bruntville, a braai / picnic, netball, volleyball, as well as soccer games, which included the derby match between Weston Young Stars and Weston Legends.

There were two soccer games lined up for the day and the first game that took place was between Weston Junior Stars (U/14) and Pumlas United (U/14). The game ended in a 4-2 victory for Pumlas United.

This was a great way to encourage young soccer talent, as well as education, and impart the message to refrain from alcohol and drug abuse – which was part of the themes for the day.

The second game was the main derby match, which ended up being decided on penalties, with Weston Legends emerging victorious again and retaining the trophy won in 2018.

A special vote of appreciation goes out to the sponsors of the event and the rest of the community for different kinds of contributions. This event would not have been the success it was without your assistance.
