Parolees plant hope at Inkululeko Home

Ex-offenders who are on parole gathered together to do gardening at the shelter as part of their community services work, and will also ensure the home is clean every day.

The department of Correctional Services, Ncome Management Area, has reaffirmed its commitment to give back to the community.

It recently visited the Inkululeko Babies Home- a home for orphaned children – to do gardening services and hand over clothes and toys which were donated by staff members from the department.

The home was ‘adopted’ by the Vryheid Community Corrections office in 2011 and the relationship has grown each year.

Ex-offenders who are on parole gathered together to do gardening at the shelter as part of their community service work, and will also ensure the home isĀ  clean every day.

The home has a total of 21 orphans, ranging in age from two weeks to six years.

Head of home, Maria Timm said, “We are very grateful to the Department of Correctional Services for the support they give us every year.”

The home has a total of nine caregivers and one social worker, and appreciates any support from individuals and businesses, to ensure the children grow up to become responsible citizens.
