Residents say they often have to go without fresh drinking water for several weeks, sometimes dragging into months.
After hearing about the plight of these residents, Gift of the Givers local representative Jaaved Khan put plans in motion and secured more than six thousand litres of bottled water to distribute.

Some of the children with the water donations.

On September 7, Mr Khan and his team visited the above areas and a total of 1728 four-litre bottles of water were given to the community.

“These areas have severe water shortages. Water tankers come once a month if they’re lucky, and sometimes they go months without a water tanker visiting. According to some of the residents, someone comes around with a tanker who actually sells water to them at R1 a litre. If residents do not have money to buy the water, they go without,” explained Mr Khan after interacting with the community members.

Some of the residents rest before returning to their homes.

In addition to the bottled water, residents also received food parcels.

“The communities were extremely grateful for the distribution. Some of them opened up the water immediately and started drinking,” concluded Mr Khan.
