Landbou learners impress at the Royal Show

Landbou competed against cattle of big stud farmers and achieved outstanding results.

The staff and the learners of Landbou can do so much more. Except for the ‘normal’ things that are happening at school they can also groom cattle, feed them, tame them and compete with them. They do waste management, go for excursions, for example to NAMPO, the Bloodriver Silos and Vryheid Waste Salvage. We have received a nursery to grow seedlings, grow more vegetables and to help the community with vegetable gardens. We make our own compost and we breed our own sheep and cattle.

So it was with a proud heart that we send our ‘ossie’ team to the Royal Show in Pietermaritzburg on May 24. On Friday the steers were prepared for the show. On Saturday our learners proudly walked their steers into the ring filled with cattle and other teams from several agricultural institutions but there was an enormous difference between Landbou and the other teams.

This is the difference which makes Landbou’s participation an outstanding achievement. Landbou was the only training institution participating with their own bred cattle. Congratulations Mr Van der Schyff and thank you that you helped Landbou compete with integrity.
