Who is Enock, you might be wondering.

Enock Zungu is an accomplished world-class fine and digital artist.

His work has been published in some of KwaZulu-Natal’s top galleries; they also debuted in Johannesburg, London and New York.

Mr Zungu is currently working on making a movie, and had his documentary aired on SABC 2 last year during August. The documentary was based on Winnie Mandela’s involvement in the iconic Women’s march.

His expertise in fine arts is not limited to paintings, drawings and murals, he also mastered animation. That is not all, he is the author of six books, Lulu goes to the aquarium, Ukuhlakanipha nje nhlengethwa and Co-operative and Rural Development, to name a few.

He served as a fine art and animation lecturer at the Centre for Fine Art, Animation and Design in Durban. Mr Zungu was involved in numerous high profile projects such as animation for SABC 1; Artwork for the BAT Centre, Playhouse Company, NSA Gallery and Durban Art Gallery.

His drawing is the trademark logo for Ezibusweni Wineries. He has designed master marketing materials for international companies such as Craftsman in New York, Tate Gallery in London, Mariota Enthoven Cape town, Forook Kahn , SA Slalom Paddling Team, AmaZulu FC, Mercury Newspaper, Anglo Alpha Cement and our very own Estcourt Tourist Junction, among the many others.
For Mr Zungu, art is not just a picture hanging on the wall for him everything begins within art. At the tender age of four, after winning a competition in the Bona magazine, Mr Zungu had been traveling abroad to, China, Zambia, London and Brooklyn and back home.

Born on the Malanspruit (farmstead) here within the uThukela District, Mr Zungu is now full-time back at home and added that he loves the tranquillity there.

He is also busy working on a documentary to capture the lives of the amaHlubi tribe and Chief (Inkosi) Langalibalele – one of the first activists to be imprisoned on Robben Island.

Mr Zungu hopes to get the youth away from sitting outside the libraries and have them write their own novels and help them have it published.

“Our once beautiful town is dying, we cannot sit around and wait for funding, we will take the first step and use the resources we have,” Mr Zungu said.

When asked which is his favourite gallery he answered the Tate Gallery in London. He supported this by saying:

“These guys are very organised, there is a lot we can learn from them. The birth of new creations develop from the art displayed there.”

Mr Zungu’s all-time favourite artist is Joseph Mallord William Turner, who was an English romanticist landscape painter.  Look out for Mr Zungu as he aims to change the community through art using his skills and the few resources we have.

He would like to get together with other fine artists, secularists, writers and other creative people and get their work exhibited at libraries, Fort Durnford and tourist junctions.
