Support animal welfares at combined rescue expo

In alignment with World Animal Day, the public are urged to support Rescue Collective this Saturday and adopt from over 30 animal rescue organisations

There’s a brand new initiative bringing together all of the animal rescue and rehabilitation groups in Gauteng at Pirates Sports Club in Greenside on Saturday October 8th.

This date was chosen to align with World Animal Day – an international day of action for animal rights and welfare to raise the status of animals and improve welfare standards – celebrated annually on October 4th (the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals).

We’d like the public to join us in droves and adopt from the more than 30 rescue organisations at the event, including Spaniel Welfare, Greyhound Welfare, FORA, CLAW, Friend of Free Wildlife, Brainy birds parrot rescue, Rat Angels, Rest ur Ass Donkey Rescue, Animal Allies, Asher’s Farm, Dogtown….Healthy Hound missing pets (who find lost pets with their star team of dog searchers) and so many more.

We want to create more networking among like-minded organisations to collaborate and support one another. The Rescue Collective – because charities working with each other are stronger together.

The Rescue Collective was started by three people who have spent most of their lives involved in animal welfare – Dean Bush, founder of Greyhound Welfare SA, Jennifer Gerner, former vet nurse for Community Led Animal Welfare (CLAW) and Cheryl Hunter, who has been involved across all aspects of animal welfare for more than 30 years.

NPOs frequently operate in silos and are so busy, operating on shoestring budgets, that they seldom have the opportunity to network among themselves and find areas of collaboration. Consumers are also largely unaware of the numerous NPOS doing great work under exceptionally difficult circumstances and rarely have the opportunity to engage with these organisations and understand what it is they do.

The rescue expo aims to be an annual event bringing together as many of the NPOs as possible to shed light on all animal welfare, not just dogs and cats, and to educate the general public on their great work in the community – from donkeys and garden birds to pet rats and parrots. And for consumers to meet the incredibly dedicated people who have given their lives to improve the welfare of the animals among us.

Join us to adopt a new fur baby or meet your favourite animal rescue heroes. Activities include: Food stalls, search & rescue demo, kids’ entertainment, donation drop offs, spot prizes, fundraisers, adopt-a-pup, microchipping, toys, treats, beds & blankets, pet-friendly; dog and cat food sponsors will also be attending and offering specials on day.
