60 years and older eligible for walk-in vaccines

JOBURG – The Gauteng Provincial Government has also increased the number of vaccination sites and stated that these will continue to be increased as more vaccines are available.

Gauteng Health Department announced that all public vaccination sites would now administer the Covid-19 jab on a walk-in basis in addition to the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) currently in use.

A statement released by the department read, ‘The announcement follows concerns over the slower rate of vaccination within the targeted age group. The latest decision will ensure that many vulnerable citizens are served, and no person is to be turned away from vaccination sites.’
They added that people who were registered and those who were not on the EVDS platform would be assisted when they visited the sites. The public is reminded to bring their proof of identify when visiting these sites.

The Gauteng Provincial Government has also increased the number of vaccination sites and stated that these would continue to be increased as more vaccines became available. ‘A total of 25 new sites have been added to the current list taking Gauteng vaccination list to 129 (89 public and 40 private sites),’ continued the statement.
‘The new sites are spread across the province: 10 in Johannesburg, five in Tshwane, four in Ekurhuleni and three in West Rand and Sedibeng each.’ Additionally, the operating hours of the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital vaccination site have also been extended to cover weekends.
