Residents cut Cresta’s overgrown grass
CRESTA – Residents cut grass on verges and pavements in the area every two weeks.
Residents gathered their rakes and lawnmowers as they took it upon themselves to cut grass on pavements and verges in Cresta.
Members of the Cresta Ext 1 Darrenwood Ext 2 Ratepayers Association (CDRA) have implemented a regular clean-up in the area and once again put on their hats for a morning of work in the sun.
Ward 98 councillor Beverley Weweje commended the residents for taking matters into their own hands after the grass had grown so long on pavements in the area. “Grass cutting and maintenance of islands and verges are still without clarity and resolution, and remains a ball that gets tossed between Johannesburg Roads Agency [JRA] and Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo,” she said.
“The residents deserve better than the indecision of these entities.” Jackie Fabian, who heads the communications portfolio for the association said local security company Papamani Security, headed by Bevern Moyo, lent a hand in the efforts and kept everyone safe for the two hours they were busy.
“Park and community clean-ups are done roughly every two weeks by the CDRA in order to help keep our environment clean, secure and a pleasant neighbourhood to live in,” she explained. The spokespeople for City Parks and JRA have been contacted regarding this issue and Randburg Sun will report on their comments accordingly.
