Police roadblock ensures Disaster Management Act compliance

MILPARK – Station commander for the Parkview Police Station Colonel Theledi Gopane said the purpose of the operation was to address the issue of lawlessness.

Several police stations joined hands with Gauteng traffic police and Metro police to conduct a roadblock along Barry Herzog Avenue between Napier Road and Sabie Road on 4 March.

The roadblock was part of the nationwide Okae Molao operation addressing the issue of lawlessness.

Police of Parkview, Norwood, Hillbrow, Cleveland, Yeoville, Rosebank and Jeppe were present at the operation, stopping vehicles to assess their roadworthiness and compliance with the Covid-19 Disaster Management Act.

Station Commander for the Parkview Police Station Colonel Theledi Gopane explained, “We began this operation at 5am with vehicle stop-and-searches in the area and visiting parks where robberies have taken place. This is about trying to ensure that we are everywhere in terms of visibility.”

During their patrol in Parkhurst, Captain Mzwandile August arrested a sexual offence suspect at the corner of 13th Street and 4th Avenue. August said during the patrol, police were called to a site where a woman accused her landlord of sexually assaulting her for the past four months. The suspect was arrested and an investigation will be conducted in this regard.
