Eskom to implement Stage 2 load-shedding from 10pm on 9 February

JOBURG – Eskom said the load-shedding is caused by the severely constrained power generation system due to high generation unit breakdowns.

Eskom has announced that they will implement Stage 2 load-shedding from 10pm on 9 February to 5am the next morning, 10 February.

The power utility said load-shedding was necessary to preserve and replenish the emergency generation reserves and to maximise the capacity available during the daytime hours.

The power generation system is still severely constrained due to high generation unit breakdowns during the past two days, as well as the delayed return to service of some units out on planned maintenance,” said Eskom in a statement.

Eskom expects some of these generation units to return to service from tomorrow,10 February, and will continuously assess the situation.

Eskom requests the public to continue using electricity sparingly as the system remains vulnerable and unpredictable, and will communicate timeously should there be any significant changes to the power system.
