Zapiro does it again

MELVILLE – Renowned cartoonist Jonathan 'Zapiro' Shapiro launched this year's annual of his illustrations at Love Books in Melville.


Each year every aspect of South African society, both good and bad, is summed up in the hilarious illustrations of renowned cartoonist Jonathan ‘Zapiro’ Shapiro, and hundreds of community members cannot wait to get their hands on a copy.

The launch of this year’s annual at Love Books in Melville was no different.

This year the book, titled Which Side is Up?, takes a comical look at all of the interesting and gripping news stories of the year, such as the Zondo Inquiry, picking through the debris of the Gupta and Bosasa empires, uncovering the webs of state capture.

The cartoonist enlightened the crowd of admirers, eagerly waiting for him to sign their books, with the stories behind the inspiration for his work, issues in current affairs, and stories of his tough times.

Zapiro spoke proudly of his recent award win in Cape Town after gaining the award of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres (Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters) that he received from the French ambassador.

The annual is available to purchase at Love Books on Rustenburg Road in Melville and at most major book stores.
