Wind down on the lawns

JOBURG – Enjoy your weekend at Marks Park.

Close off the year on a high with serenading sounds from Jeremy Loops, Matthew Mole, The World of Birds, Werner Bekker, and Lara Gear as Large on the Lawn returns to Marks Park on 30 November.

The festival has become Joburg’s answer to Cape Town’s popular Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts, creating a beautiful day out with friends and family on a blanket with drinks and snacks, making for the perfect way to spend a Saturday.

“I’m super excited! I’ve played three Large on the Lawns now and every one of them has been amazing. It’s always a great turn out with a really cool line-up. Just to be on the line-up is amazing,” Mole said.

This year marks Large on the Lawn’s sixth edition and sees the fest continue its quest to take on the city by storm, bringing the best in local talent while helping create memories and unbreakable bonds among locals.

Jeremy Loops and Matthew Mole, Large on the Lawn staples, take on the stage as they set to welcome Australian indie-folk band, Sons of the East. Band mates Dan Wallage, Nic Johnston and Jack Rollins have already seen their music achieve 100 million streams and over 20 million YouTube views as their popularity continues to soar worldwide and now the band is set to treat South African audiences for the first time.

Over the years, the fest has created a different vibe and atmosphere – making each edition different. However, one thing that has remained the same is the essence of live music – a feat that has quickly become synonymous with the festival.

“People are really responsive to the music. Over the years, I’ve learnt a lot about performing live and playing at the shows you see that people go there for the music. It’s an amazing thing as a band or as an artist to go there and for people to hear the music,” Mole said.

Joining the cult festival for the first time is folk-pop singer, Werner Bekker. The singer has shared the stage with the likes of Loops and Moles and promised a banging set during his performance at the fest.

“It brings a good vibe to the show. It’s the perfect starter and it’s not too hectic and people can get into the vibe with my music,” Bekker said.
