RANDPARK RIDGE – A local DJ took his hands away from the decks to talk to the Northcliff Melville Times about his first Ultra Music Festival experience.
In our first ever Twitterview (Twitter interview), the Northcliff Melville Times caught up with Phodii on how his first ever Ultra Music Festival went on 2 March. With fans, family, and friends of the DJ joining the conversation, the Academy of Sound Engineering student and Randpark Ridge resident spoke about how big of an achievement this was for him.
Here is what he had to say:
Why was your addition to this year’s edition of the Ultra Music Festival a special one for you?
Thank you!
Well firstly, it was my debut performance at #UltraSA2019, I was the youngest DJ on the line-up this year and according to chats I was the youngest African DJ on an Ultra line-up which gave me goosebumps, but felt good at the same time 🔥👌🏾

At which point during your set did you feel like you were in control?
I think from the onset the crowd was pumping and cheering me on which was breathing taking! The whole set was truly powerful and crowd reaction was on a major pinnacle. But I think we confirmed the connection when I dropped #Changes by Electrocandi🤞🏾🔥❤️

*Breathe-taking
My Instagram Live was also going crazy with comments, hearts, etc.🙌🏾
God’s work is amazing! His plan for my career is amazing and I’m grateful for that, as well as the support from everyone🙏🏾 .. my tagline is #TogetherWeGrow & I feel like we achieved that ❤️

What were some of the songs you played during your set?
Classified, there’s other DJs here too ❌🤭👀
Jokes! I started with Afro-tech, jumped into some Gqom, EDM & ended it off with some banging Afro-tech tunes, feat. the likes of @SUPTA_DJ @Hypesouldj @LiquideepSA the late @HipHopPantsula @NaakMusiQ & many more..— PHODII (@Phodii_DJ) March 4, 2019

Do you have any advice to share with those aspiring to reach the highest you have?
Part 1: Hard work, resilience, passion, dedication, determination, endurance, networking, always having a positive attitude even when it’s tough & my faith in God has helped pave the way for me so far.

Part 2:
My advice is to keep aiming high, make a big deal out of everything that you do even if people don’t take you seriously. Also remember that your background & current circumstances don’t shape who you are, it’s up to you to mould your vision in whatever way possible.
