A ‘cut’ above the rest

The votes have been cast, counted and tallied and Impala Butchery has been chosen as the Best Butchery for 2018 in the Best of Joburg Readers’ Choice Awards.

Upon receiving the call, advising of their award, Owner John Morte said, “I just thought this is awesome! I couldn’t believe it! And to get a bit of recognition for all our hard work is actually amazing.”

He added, “But it’s actually not just us. We have a fantastic team and some amazing and committed customers who have led us to this place.”

With a 40-year history of supplying some of the finest meat in Johannesburg, the family-owned business is going strong in an extremely competitive space. Morte said, “We have been going for so long. We are in our business seven days a week and with so many options and varieties in this industry, to receive this award means that we are doing something right.

“To be named the best butchery is important because when someone comes to us for meat, they are planning to share it with the people they care about the most and they trust us with some of the best and important times of their lives with their families or friends. So we do play a part in those good occasions. It’s not just about feeding, it’s about celebrating good times.”

Morte attributes their success to the customers in the community and the staff who have created a great family. He said, “What I attribute our success to is our team’s belief that we only want to provide and sell meat that we would feed our own families… That’s what we strive for.

“To win this accolade is amazing but I also feel that we still have so far to go, which is pushing us to get better.”
