Marang House to celebrate 20th anniversary, calls on community to lend a helping hand

NORTHCLIFF – Help them reach another 20 years.

Marang House, a Northcliff based children’s home, will be celebrating their 20th anniversary by hosting a special fundraising campaign.

The theme for their celebrations is to reconnect with the community and they call on the community to get involved with them as they have been for the last 20 years.

According to Melanie Tennant, manager of the home, Marang House will use its anniversary to re-establish ties with people who have been involved in making a difference to the lives of their children.

Tennant explained, “The 20th anniversary is a great opportunity to look back at the many successes that we have had, reconnect with all the stakeholders who have helped us reach this important milestone and at the same time a chance to look ahead to the next twenty years.”

Tennant said that the focus will be towards raising much-needed funding to continue their work.

She added, “It has not been easy to reach the 20- year milestone. Every donation, no matter how large or small makes a difference, but right now what would help us most is donors who commit on a monthly basis. Donations always fluctuate, so some certainty goes a long way.”

Marang House cares for children suffering from life-threatening illnesses. They currently accommodate 12 children between the ages of four and 14 who suffer from renal failure, pulmonary alveolar and chronic diabetes, and who are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Johannesburg.

The home provides these children with a stable home environment which includes 24-hour medical care, regular monitoring, hospital visits, nutritious meals and lots of love.

Salome Parkies, long-time matron of the home, shared her experiences at Marang House.

“There are too many incredible stories to mention, but what moves me the most is the children who are now grown up and come and visit the house. I’ve seen these children fighting to overcome their illnesses and now they are living normal lives. It’s incredibly rewarding.”

Those interested in assisting the home can contact them via telephone or email. Donations to the campaign can be made at 20years.maranghouse.org
