A Seussified Christmas Carol

MELVILLE – A Christmas production the whole family will enjoy at the National Children's Theatre.

A talented actress showed interest in the arts from a young age and she has not looked back since.

Currently starring in the entertaining musical A Seussified Christmas Carol, Meville resident Nomonde Matiwane said her father used to take her to watch musical theatre productions by famous director Mbongeni Ngema.

She even started learning the choreography and the lines off by heart.

“My favourite productions are the first few shows I did in Durban before I moved to Johannesburg which was My Fair Lady, Cinderella and Jimbo at the Playhouse. These were my first few professional productions I got to do after I finished studying.

“When I moved to Johannesburg, my first show I did was Charlotte’s Web at the Children’s Theatre, so that’s quite sentimental to me,” said Matiwane.

One of her other favourite performances was Seussical Junior at the National Children’s Theatre.

The actress’ acting abilities are not limited to theatre productions as she also does voice-overs for radio, television and also featured in a film called Faith.

In her latest production she stars in A Seussified Christmas Carol which is a heartwarming story of the mean Ebeneezer Scrooge who encounters the ghost of his deceased business partner Jacob Marley. Scrooge then embarks on a journey into his Christmas past, present and future.

“I play narrator one in the play and Cassius David’s plays narrator two. We narrate throughout the show giving it a bit of a spark. People can expect a fun Christmas show that will definitely get them in the spirit of Christmas in November.

“There’s also a good message within the show that kids can learn a lot from such as respecting people and to not look down on people who are less fortunate than you.”

She said working with director Francois Theron and all the cast members was an amazing experience.
