Women produce excellence

LINDEN - New film, shot mainly in Linden is on its way to the big screen.

Two of the five producers of the new Afrikaans film, Sy klink soos lente, spoke to the Randburg Sun about their first experience in producing a film and what some of the standout points, as well as there struggles, were.

Tina Kruger and Rachelle Crous worked alongside Stiaan Smith, Bouwer Bosch and Danie Bester to produce this romantic comedy that released at cinemas on 30 September. Crous explained that Smith and Kruger approached Bouwer Bosch Films last year to help them bring this movie, written by Smith in 2012, to the big screen.

These two women talked eagerly about their first-ever film. “We sat around a table in a restaurant last year, naïve about what it would actually take to make a film,” said Crous.

The pre-production of this film began last year. “We are proud to say that we are women, as this is regularly a man’s world,” laughed Crous. Both women agreed that having women as producers could be beneficial as they bring a motherly aspect to the film.

Kruger explained that each producer had their own role. Bosch, being a singer, was responsible for the music. Bester was responsible for the budget, Smith wrote and played the main character, Kruger did the casting and Crous did the marketing and public relations. “There is no movie like this one. It has no cliches and shows love in the real life,” said Kruger.

She added that casting for a film is extremely important as the characters have to have a chemistry with each other. “When Amalia Uys walked into the room, we knew that she would play Linda,” said Crous. Uys plays the female main character, with Smith.

The women said the film was shot from 5am in the morning until very late. “We see each other at our best and worst,” concluded Kruger.
