Grease musical wows audinces

LINDEN – Hoërskool Linden choir brings the Grease musical to life at the Roodepoort Theatre.

Hoërskool Linden’s award-winning youth choir brought the smash hit musical Grease to life. The iconic play took place at the Roodepoort Theatre from 9 to 13 August.

Hoerskool Linden governing body member, Anita Heyl said that the fast-paced musical was a smash hit with audiences at the Roodepoort Theatre. The 114-strong cast had audiences on their feet with their performance. They performed hit songs Greased Lightnin, Summer Nights and You’re the One that I Want.

Linden choir has a proud tradition spanning almost 25 years. The choir annually hosts a number of productions, ranging from classical music to Christmas Carols. It produces and performs a musical every five years and the 2016 Grease production was the fourth musical brought to stage by the choir.

“Audience members couldn’t get enough and some even attended up to three shows. All five shows played to full audiences with the last three nights being sold-out and people desperately scrambling for any last minute tickets becoming available,” said Heyl.

She added that the Linden choir’s production of Grease distinguished itself from the original in that, it was not limited to a cast of 19 but had a whopping 114 cast members. The original music was specially adapted to cater for four voice parts delivering a powerful version of timeless classics.

Directly after the Grease production, the choir started rehearsing for another production called the ‘Atrium’ that will be delivered on 10 September, at the Randburg–Suid NG Kerk. The programme will include some of the best songs from musicals written and composed by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
