AUCKLAND PARK – Kiano Janse van Rensburg takes us on a magical journey of his bold actor's career.

The National Children’s Theatre is showcasing the stage adaption of Roald Dahl’s, George’s Marvellous Medicine.

Kiano Janse van Rensburg plays the role of George in this awesomely wonderful children’s play that is sure to entertain the entire family. Janse van Rensburg shared his aspirations.

The budding actor said that he had wanted to be an actor since he was six years old. “My first role was for a Nando’s commercial about four years ago,” said Janse van Rensburg. He added that he has also acted in small roles at The People’s Theatre in a production of Aristocrats. “My most exciting role so far was portraying a bully in the international horror movie, Friend Request,” said Janse van Rensburg.

He explained that what most excites him about being an actor is losing himself in a character. “I also enjoy interacting with an audience very much, which happens mostly when I do stage performances,” said Janse van Rensburg.

The avid reader plays the role of George Kranky and said what he loves most about his character is that he is a wacky and out-going boy who likes to be naughty. He said that to be a good actor you cannot act. “You can not ‘act’ a character, you have to become the character,” said Janse van Rensburg.

The Auckland Park resident said that what he most loves about the works of Roald Dahl is the way he transports the reader into a magical world. He divulged that his favourite actor is Johnny Depp.

George’s Marvellous Medicine is centered around a young boy’s plan to make magic medicine for his mean grandmother to replace the medicine she already takes. Janse van Rensburg said that when he was younger, whenever he would be given medicine, his mother would give him a berry tonic. “It was very sweet so it took away the bad taste of medicines,” he said.

Janse van Rensburg concluded that the most inspiring quote he has heard was from Johnny Depp, who said, ‘I think everybody’s weird. We should all celebrate our individuality and not be embarrassed or ashamed of it’.
