The Voice finalist leaves competitors tone-deaf
WESTDENE – The Voice SA finalist, Clemour Ngobeni makes resident's association proud of his recent success.
The Westdene Resident’s Association celebrated their local celebrity with a dinner at Tasca do Sol in Westdene on 1 April to congratulate him on his recent success. Clement Ngobeni (24), resident of Westdene and UJ student in BA Film and TV won a recent voice battle on The Voice South Africa on 27 March.
The young man is musically known as Clemour. He was the VIP guest at this dinner party and said that he feels honoured to have the support of his community. Ngobeni took part in the blind auditions of The Voice SA and said that two coaches, Kahn Morbee and Lira turned for him. “I chose to be on Kahn’s team as I feel his music style is the same as mine,” said Ngobeni.
On 27 March Ngobeni competed in a musical battle against Justin Swallow. As both of them are on Morbee’s team one of them had to be voted out. The two singers sang Roar from Katy Perry and Ngobeni impressed the coaches with his rendition. “I come from a very musical family. My grandfather was a singer and both my parents were choir conductors,” said Ngobeni.
With a laugh, Ngobeni explained his music style as a combination of blues, soul and electro. “I am inspired by artists such as Sipho Hotstix Mabuse, Tony Hamilton and Johnny Clegg.”
Ngobeni said that The Voice is such a great platform for young musicians as the coaches don’t only judge, but provide a mentorship. “They are all such professional musicians who have made it in the music industry,” added Ngobeni.
Ngobeni said that the live shows of The Voice will start on 17 April and would need the votes of the public to keep him there. Ngobeni concluded by describing himself as a dreamer, poet and self-motivator.
