Modder en Bloed film released

JOBURG – The Afrikaans war film Modder en Bloed played by international and local stars

The trailer for the Anglo Boer War film, Modder en Bloed (Blood and Glory) has been released in Afrikaans.

The film is set in 1901, when the Anglo Boer War rages in South Africa, and Boer warrior Willem Morkel’s (Stian Bam) wife and only child are murdered by British soldiers.

Colonel Swannell (Grant Swanby) is in control of the concentration camp in St Helena, and he has such a deep-seated hatred for the Afrikaner that he makes their existence as difficult as possible. Then Willem accepts a challenge, which will lead to the most important battle of the Boers’ lives.

Stian Bam who plays Willem Morkel said, “Willem is a big role – iconic in nature.”

“It is very seldom that one gets the opportunity to play a role like this and to be part of a film like this,” he said.

The film’s impressive ensemble cast includes both South African and British actors.

Local actors such as Deon Lotz, Edwin van der Walt, Albert Maritz, Altus Theart, Jacques Bessenger, Bok van Blerk, Michael Richard and David Louw star in the film, while the British cast includes Charlotte Salt, Patrick Connolly, Nick Cornwall and Josh Myers are part of the cast.

Bam said, “It was an incredible privilege to work with the international actors.”

Charlotte Salt who plays Cathrine Sterndelle said it was exciting to play such a strong character.

“It’s not a love story, it is a story of courage, and finding your voice and figuring out what you believe in,” Salt said.

The film writer, director and producer Sean Else said the making of the film was a wonderful experience that brought a fantastic team of people from across the world, in front of and behind the camera, closer to one another and to the project as they faced each challenge together.
