Joan celebrates 95 years

LINDEN – A resident celebrates her 95th birthday with her close friends from the Good Companions Club.

Joan O’Connor turned 95 years old on 22 November, and celebrated her birthday with her family at her daughter’s home.

O’Connor is a member of the Good Companions Club that hosted her a birthday celebration on 25 November at the Linden Presbyterian Church. The Good Companions Club is a club where elderly citizens meet every Wednesday to socialise, participate in fun activities and enjoy the entertainment provided for its members.

O’Connor said that she feels very blessed to be alive and well at 95. “I have had a good life, I enjoyed being a teacher and eventually a principal in the early days of my life,” she said.

Close friend Audrey Diehl said she hoped O’Connor can reach 100. “Joan is such a lovely person who is caring and holds a special place in my heart,” Diehl said.

All of O’Connor’s friends from the Good Companions Club attended the 95th birthday where they presented her with a beautiful cake that had a modest number of candles.

She said the secret to having a long life is to get a lot of sun and staying positive. “My advice for the younger generation is they should work as hard as possible to reach their goals they have set for themselves,” she said.
