Vilje rolling high

MELVILLE – Local High Rollers actor raises the stakes in the South African film and television industry.

Local High Rollers actor and Melville resident Vilje Maritz (25) has proved his worth in the South African television and film industry time and again.

The actor’s career took off in 2008 at the age of 18 after starring in a theatre production that placed him instantly in the limelight.

Maritz said soon after his appearance on stage he received a call from the well-known soap opera Binneland to play a lead role, but declined the offer to rather take the time to learn more about the industry.

“I was not ready to take the bull by the horns and decided to rather take the time to get to know the industry behind the scenes,” said Maritz.

Soon after he had gained the experience he needed, he stepped into the limelight and played the role of Gys Eloff in Binneland.

Since then Maritz has starred in numerous local films such as Platteland, Veraaiers, Liefste Kyla and Swart Waters, Die Pro, Hollywood in my Huis and ‘n Man soos my pa.

Maritz has also starred in some theatre productions such as 4000 Myl, My pa dink hys Elvis and Fratz.

The actor said he does relate to his character in High Rollers as they are both pro-active.

“My hobbies include gym and surfing which are both activities present in the character I portray,” said Maritz.

He added that his favourite character is of CJ van Asweging in Veraaiers.

“The role was emotionally challenging which made it worth so much more,” he said.

His future goals are to produce and work on radio, but he said thus far he is pleased with what has put on his table.

Maritz advises young actors to always be loyal and true to themselves and the character they play.

He concluded by saying he is positive about the future and what it holds for him.
