Pantomime entertains with song and dance

ROOSEVELT PARK – Classical fairy tale turned into a entertaining pantomime.

Franklin Players Community Theatre in Roosevelt Park will be hosting a show, Cinderella and her fellas, to raise funds for the SPCA in Randburg.

“We aim to get community members active in the arts and welcome anyone who wants to join, regardless of experience”, said Samantha Keller from the theatre. Membership fees are R150 a year.

Cinderella and her fellas was written by director, Els de Bundel, and does not deviate too much from the original fairy tale. According to Keller, the prince is now a soccer player and the king is less than conventional. “But what can you expect when your fairy godmother casts a spell over the panto? The twists given to these characters guarantee an energetic and infectious panto – an ideal way to ring in the festive season,” said Keller. He said the audience can expect a lot of song and dance, complete with some sing along golden oldies and more recent pop numbers.

“This is my third panto. We had a wonderful time putting the show together in a record time of seven weeks. Following our motto of ‘Just do it’ we are doing it and hope the audience will enjoy it as much as our last two pantomimes,” said De Bundel.

Tao Blignaut stars as Cinderella and the male lead is played by a female, Chelsea Lockwood. The two ugly stepsisters are played by men. This show will run from 27 November to 6 December. Bookings can be made at franklinbookings@gmail.com.
