Young Fashion Designers Awards

NEWTOWN – Young fashion designers to showcase their work.

Young, stylish and creative African fashion designers are set to showcase their work at the Newtown Junction Mall for five days.

The event will run from 17 to 21 November and it will include enterprise exhibition, seminar, workshops and the Young Fashion Designer Awards ceremony.

The South African Fashion Designers Agency (Safda) president, Sonwabile Ndamase said they are bringing the young designers’ creations to new and established markets at the 21st Annual Vukani Fashion Show Awards.

He said they are expecting designers from Angola, Namibia, Mozambique, Malawi and Botswana to compete with the South Africans.

Ndamase is the creator of Vukani Fashions and the first person to design the Madiba shirt.

He added that another designer, who will exhibit her work, is Asanda – the Idols fashion designer.

Vukani Awards were established in 1994, and they act as the portal through which the evolution of the first generation of South Africa’s fashion artistry since independence can be witnessed.

He said the theme illustrates how the competing young designers are expected to illuminate the regal and ancient glory of the African aesthetic.

”These young fashion designers are required to place Africa in the centre, as the heart from which the world’s energy radiates, reflecting its awe-inspiring nature as the ultimate source of humanity and wealth,” said Ndamase.
