Vegard is the last artist left who the Snow Queen captures and freezes but a magic mirror informs the queen that Vegard had children who prevent her from achieving her goal. Vegard had hidded his son and daughter before he and his wife were frozen. The Snow Queen sends a troll, Org, to go and find the children. At first he only finds Gerda’s brother Kai and sends him back with the Polish wind to the Snow Queen. Gerda, adamant to save her brother. forces the troll to accompany her on her journey to do so. Gerda, her pet ferret and the troll go through numerous adventures until she finally reaches her destination. Gerda finally saves her brother and it is revealed that the Snow Queen is actually just an insecure little girl who was mocked for being an artist while she was young. She became the Snow Queen after looking into a magic lake which made her heart turn into ice.

THE GOOD: Spectacular animation. The beautiful 3D scenes are captivating and done in a fantastic manner. The film also reveals valuable life lessons and is entertaining with a few humorous scenes. It is a feel-good movie that proves once again that good will always overcome evil. Courage and family love are two key elements that are highlighted.

THE BAD: The film has been dubbed from Dutch into Afrikaans and the lip synching is not done well. The words do not correspond with the lip movements of the characters. There is also not a lot of character development. (The characters are very one dimensional). The only character that truly grows throughout the film is the troll. The film also does not have a flow. Some scenes seem random and do not contribute to the overall story line.

THE VERDICT: The film will be very entertaining for young children. Older children might start realising the speech and the character’s lip movements are not the same. Besides that the film is as all animations a feel-good movie.
