The rebels of ballroom takes the stage

BRAAMFONTEIN – 'Burn the Floor' crew shows its rebellious moves.

Audiences were treated to an amazing show by the Burn the Floor crew at Joburg Theatre.

Nicknamed ‘Rebels of the Ballroom’, this is one of the popular dance crews across the world.

The group performed at the theatre on 18 September, and it includes South Africans and international stars.

It first toured in Australia, Europe and America before heading to Johannesburg.

Collett Dawson of The CoLab Network said the performance was the showcase of their latest work,

crafted over the past years, with new music, elaborate sets, and costumes designed by the famous designers combined with ground breaking choreography.

“Their shows pushes the boundaries of dance, creating high voltage theatrical experiences,” Dawson said.

The group debuted in 1999 in London.

For the past 16 years, they have toured the world and visited over 300 cities.

Burn the Floor’s executive producer Nic Notley said, “The new show is totally different than our last production that came to Joburg.”

He said it has the same rebellious spirit, though more daring with a more theatrical rock angle.

“Burn the Floor has the reputation of being the “worlds toughest dance show” and the dancers are handpicked to embrace a new

Latin American feel. We are are also delighted to have a South African performing on the world tour,” he said.

Notley said they have also included music from the likes of Santana, Janis Joplin, Christina Aguilera and Led Zeppelin.
