The Annual Shared History Festival extravaganza

PARKTOWN –The Shared History Festival promises to have an array of fun activities all members of the family will enjoy.

In celebration of heritage month, the High Commissioner of India in South Africa Ruchi Ghanashyam launched the Shared History Festival 2015 the Indian experience in South Africa on 4 September in Parktown.

Ghanashyam welcomed guests to celebrate the spring season with the Shared History Festival. “Through the festival we tell the story of India, of South Africa, of their heritage and accomplishments,” she said.

Teamwork Arts, a leading Indian performance arts company, in collaboration with the high commission of India in South Africa present the ninth edition of the annual festival from 7 – 25 September. Teamwork specialises in traditional and contemporary performing arts, social action and the corporate world.

The festival focuses on the Indian culture locally and in India, which will include music, dance, theatre, comedy and exhibitions showcasing some of the best arts and culture in South Africa and India.

The Food festival at the Classic Indian Restaurant starts off on 7–14 September in Fourways. The festival will consist of chefs from India preparing delicious Indian street food.

A popular crowd favorite is a musical performance – a unique collective of Rajasthani folk music by multi-talented Kutle Khan, who has performed in many stages around the world.

Photojournalist Ranjith Kally’s solo collection of work Memory against Forgetting will be exhibited on 25 September at GIBBs University in Johannesburg. Kally is popular for giving an authentic perspective of a country in upheaval and a society divided between the fortunate and deprived.
