VIDEO: Hendricks contemplates change

MONTGOMERY PARK – Tim Hendricks talks about his career and what he wants to achieve with his music.

Singer and song writer Tim Hendricks recently released his latest album entitled Contemplating Change.

Hendricks spoke about how his passion for music started and what is new about his album. He was born in Port Elizabeth but attended school in Johannesburg. “When I finished school I decided to relocate back to Port Elizabeth, because most of my family is based there,” he said.

Hendricks revealed that he always secretly knew that he wanted to be an artist. “I just didn’t know how. Music sort of just popped along in my life. I picked up the guitar at 15.”

Hendricks explained the inspiration behind the concept of his new album. “I came up with the concept as I was going through a break-up with my girlfriend. I told her that I was thinking about contemplating change, and then I realised that it was a great album title,” he said.

The latest album includes songs that Hendricks had for about 11 years and had not released yet. “The songs are about a reflection of society, things that I viewed from a third person perspective in life,” he said.

He pointed out that some of the songs on the album have added meaning to his life. “One of the songs on the album, Oxygen, is about my relationship with my mom at the age of 20, and with me getting a bursary to study at Wits and turning it down to pursue my music career. For me there was no compromise, there was no fall back,” he said.

Hendricks explained that he has the habit of writing material constantly and only putting a song on a record when he felt it is good enough, or it can appeal to a broader audience. “I am really proud of the content that I have created for this album,” he concluded.

Contemplating Change was released on 19 June and is currently available via itunes and Amazon.
