Wondering what to do this weekend? No worries, It is the long weekend and the City of Joburg has got something for everyone.

• Parkers Comedy and Jive

Rubber Duc, Lonehill Estate and Nicole Kelly will be performing at Parkers Comedy and Jive at Silverstar Casino on 23 April. Doors open at 6.30pm and tickets cost R100 through Webtickets.

• Bassline Comedy Night

Gavin Kelly and Mo Mothebe will be back at Bassline in Newtown on 24 April at 7.30pm to present an exciting comedy series, Bassline Comedy Nights. Line up: Trevor Gumbi, Mpho Pops and Loyiso Madinga will be pulling throw as well to have their way with your funny bone. R80 gets you in.

• Braamfontein Graffiti Tour with Graffiti Artist Bias

On this walking tour, the City will be celebrating the graffiti and street art of Braamfontein with local graffiti artist Bias on 25 April at 10am. There is no better way to experience graffiti in Johannesburg than with a walking tour lead by a local graffiti artist who can tell you more about the movement.

• We, the people walk 2015

Join the second annual 5km or 8km symbolic walk on 26 April at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg at 10am. The walk will comprise still art, music, dance, poetry, kiddies programmes and many more activities for the older young and old. It will kick off with the Thand’uMzansi campaign, which seeks to promote patriotism and active citizenry by singing the National Anthem, hoisting the flag and reading the Preamble to the Constitution.

• Lusito Land Festival 2015

Make your way to Wemmer Pan, Johannesburg South on 26 April at 5pm to experience the Lusito Land Festival which has all the Portuguese festivities you have come to love. Don’t miss out on all the festival’s delights. There will be everything from the peri-peri chicken to the prawns, caipirinhas, fun-fair rides, live music and plenty more. Entrance: R70 for adults and R40 for kids under 12.

• Soul Revival Session International Gospel Concert

International award-winning gospel singer and Pastor Marvin Sapp celebrates South Africa’s Freedom Day on 27 April at the Coca-Cola Dome along with local gospel royalty – the likes of Ntokozo Mbambo, Benjamin Dube, Solly Mahlangu, Sifiso Ncwane and Apostle Mokoena in the Soulful Sounds: Soul Revival Session gospel concert. The six-hour-long concert promises and eclectic mix of inspirational and celebratory music for gospel music lovers on this historic day.

• Natalie Chapman #90Days2015 (Gauteng leg)

Natalie Chapman hits the home stretch on her final leg of #90Days and her 180th gig at Mark’s Park on 27 April. Chapman has reached thousands of people and travelled thousands of kilometres with her message of hope through music – giving a voice to survivors of violent and sexual crimes. Since kicking off her #90Days journey in April, Chapman has performed 143 shows so far in just 72 days across 80 different towns. This forms part of her mission to do 180 shows in just 90 days.

• Back To The City Festival

It is Back to the City festival time and if you love hip hop then there’s nowhere else you can possibly be than at Back to the City this Freedom Day at Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown 27 April from 10am. Newtown will commemorate Freedom Day with thousands of youth celebrating the holiday through hip- hop music. This year’s concert will feature some of the best hip-hop artists in South Africa and will also comprise of other hip-hop culture elements. Expect local acts, an international act, DJs, basketball, a skatepark, fashion show, rap battles, mouthpiece beat box battles, comedians, bands and an alternative stage showcasing a different kind of hip hop. Tickets cost R150 general access and R300 president access.

• Freedom Day Concert

Celebrate Freedom Day with a musical celebration at the Cradle of Humankind, Nirox Sculpture Park on 27 April at 10am.

On Monday 27 April Nirox Sculpture Park will be combining food, nature, music and art to bring you a jubilant outdoor autumn celebration. The lush amphitheatre will be playing host to The Soil, Bongeziwe Mabandla, The Muffinz, Zenzi Makeba Lee, Tidal Waves, Jika Nelanga and Qadasi and Maqhinga.

So, what are you waiting for, get your tickets and make the most of being free surrounded by nature, in the company of local talent and bliss.
