Dance showcase will heat up Roodepoort Theatre

ROODEPOORT – Three nights of sizzling moves at the Roodepoort Theatre.

Pupils at the Jozi Youth Dance Company (JYDC) will show exactly why they produce champions with their debut showcase, titled écouter.

From 23 to 25 April, the more than 40 dancers will leave it all on the dance floor at the Roodepoort Theatre.

JYDC founder and choreographer Jayd Swart said the showcase will have guest choreographers, including Nikki Jacobs, Phume Sikhakhane and Lesley Angrove.

“We want to create a stepping stone for dancers into the big dance companies around the company and the world. This an opportunity to expose their talents to a broader audience. We also hope to lift the level of dance in South Africa’s young dancers and raise awareness about this art form,” Swart said.

The show will cover different genres including ballet, contemporary, African and jazz. Swart admits that they are incredibly busy after claiming victory at the Dance World Cup SA 2015 recently. After the showcase in April, all the dancers will be getting ready to jet off and compete at the World Championships in Romania, this June.

Doors will open at 7pm on all three nights, with tickets priced at R100.
