Cost effective ideas for Valentines

RANDBURG – Share in each other's love in five quick and cost-effective ways.

The time for love has sprung upon us again with Valentine’s Day lingering around the corner.

Shelves in the shops are stocked, florists are blooming and restaurants are jam-packed with bookings. However, for many people money is tight, especially, in February. So spoil your loved ones with a cost-effective way to display your shared love without breaking your pocket’s heart.

  • Create an indoor picnic with available props, for example, a picnic tablecloth and paper goods. Share finger foods and favourite treats along with a glass of wine. Enjoy your picnic on the living room floor or in bed. Play card games, board games, or make up your own.
  • What did you do on your very first date? Repeat it.
  • Pick rose alternatives. Florists increase the prices of traditional Valentine’s flowers during this period, so pick some non-traditional alternatives to lower the costs. You can also giving more functional choices like rosemary or basil plants. If you’re set on giving roses, mix them with other flowers to save.
  • Do something nice for someone else. It feels great to be spoiled on Valentine’s Day, why not spoil those who really need it?

Perhaps as a couple volunteer at a shelter in your area or visit an old-age home and donate those very expensive flowers to some folks who would love it.

  • Avoid going to already crowded and expensive restaurants on this day. Opt for take-outs from your favourite restaurant. Set up the scene at home and enjoy.
