Empower people with disabilities

AUCKLAND PARK - Netcare Rehabilitation hospital will be empowering people with disabilities through sports on 22 October.

Netcare Rehabilitation Hospital is hosting its 2014 Annual Sports Day on 22 October to encourage a healthy lifestyle for people with disabilities.

The event, which was started in 2000, has been growing in popularity. The Sports Day will be empowering people with disabilities and their families to strive toward a positive lifestyle despite the challenges they face.

According to the organiser Charles De Kock, “The day creates a fun and friendly environment for patients undergoing physical rehabilitation from across Gauteng and makes healthcare workers, medical professionals, suppliers and family members aware of the rehabilitation process and the services on offer.”

He adds, “It also gives successfully rehabilitated individuals the opportunity to share their success and motivate others currently receiving physical rehabilitation.”

The day is structured around fun and competitive activities for all participants, regardless of their level of disability.

The event will also showcase the positive effect that participation in physical activities has on people living with disabilities..

De Kock shared that many of the participants come from disadvantaged communities and have few resources. “Netcare Rehabilitation Hospital will try to make the day really meaningful for them by focusing on potential and possibilities,” he concluded.
