It will be the 26th Mini Olympics hosted by the Linrand Swimming Club, and any child is welcome as long as he or she can swim any stroke for 25m.

“They should do it because it is an opportunity to swim in a formal gala without having to be a member of a club,” said Beth Libby-Neale, a committee member at the club.

She added that the Mini Olympics are “less formal” and young children cannot be intimated by older ones, because of the age limit.

Certificates are awarded for everyone who participates, and trophies are presented to winners of events. There will be five events per age group.

The freestyle, backstroke, breastroke and butterfly events are 25m each.

The individual medley comprises all four strokes and is 100m.

The Mini Olympics will start at 9am and finish at 2pm. Participants must pay R15 per event.

Entries close on 17 October.

To apply, contact the club’s head coach, Penny Quinlan.
