UJ continues to fight

AUCKLAND PARK - As the Varsity Football cup approaches the finals, UJ remains unbeaten.

University of Johannesburg continues to fight as they remain top of the log standings.

UJ clashed with North-West University on 25 August in Mafikeng – and the home side were oozing confidence on the field.

The final games of the much-talked about Varsity Football season have supporters on the edge of their seats as the remaining teams fight to be in the finals of the tournament. Fans are on their toes in suspense of who will be victorious.

It was a battle of giants when UJ and NWU collided – the two teams maintain their unbeaten status in the competition and the match ended in a 1 – 1 draw with only a goal difference separating them on the standings.

The match was not all plain sailing for both sides as they missed opportunities. However, UJ smelled a goal when Ruben de Freitas found the back of the net and managed to lead his team to 1 – 0. NWU was not going to let UJ embarrass them at their home ground. They cut short UJ’s celebration by levelling matters when Lindani Dudula was awarded a penalty after being fouled in the 18-yard area. It was an interesting battle between the two teams but neither of them could find a way past beating each other.
