World Cup 2014, here they come

VICTORY PARK – Locals win tickets to 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Sixteen people from across the country will be going on an all-expenses paid trip to Brazil to watch the 2014 FIFA World Cup between 12 June and 13 July.

They won the McDonald’s Ultimate Fan competition, and three of the winners received their tickets at the fast food restaurant’s Victory Park branch on 30 May.

Their travel and accommodation will be free, and they will watch games, meet players in changing rooms, and even walk through the tunnel onto the field.

Cornelius Wilhelmus (21) won a ticket to the final.

“I can’t explain how excited I am,” he said.

“I have big hopes for Italy. They won a couple of Wold Cups before and I want them to succeed again.”

Wilhelmus is currently studying in Pretoria to be a plumber.

Brother and sister Zane (22) and Zedrah Kekana (28), who live in Limpopo, won a double-ticket to a quarter-final match.

“I am not really a soccer fan but I have always wanted to go to Brazil,” Zane said.

“Now that I am going, I will take the opportunity to watch the World Cup.”

Zedrah said that she watches soccer more than Zane, and will support Argentina.

Senior director of marketing for McDonald’s South Africa Daniel Padiachy said that the purpose of the competition was to allow people who did not have the opportunity to watch matches at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, to have the “life-changing experience” of watching a live World Cup match.
