Faizel Seedat climbs the ranks in heyball league
Last week at St Billiards, the stakes were high as 13 players faced off in an electrifying heyball tournament, where stakes were high to climb up in the ranks.
Last week, the atmosphere at St Billiards was electric as 13 skilled heyball players gathered for an intense night of competition, split into four groups.
The event, characterised by thrilling matches and fierce rivalries, culminated in an impressive victory for Faizel Seedat, who emerged as the overall champion of the evening.
Seedat, who drew what many considered the ‘group of death’, recognised the challenge ahead. “Having won my first match against Damien Niemand somewhat easily, the second match was where things took a turn, prompting me to dig deep to get myself out of the group of death,” he said.

Though he faced a setback with a loss in his second match, the pressure intensified as he prepared to face the host player, Suhail Samsook, who currently ranks third in the league.
In a dramatic turn of events, he lost the lag to Samsook and was tasked with breaking first. Unfortunately, two consecutive foul breaks left him on shaky ground, but he remained determined.
“I had one more chance to get it right,” Seedat reflected, emphasising the importance of this moment in his quest to advance. With grit and focus, he made a successful legal break in his final attempt, potting a solid ball into the centre pocket.

The layout of the remaining balls favoured him, providing a crucial opportunity to secure the frame. Seedat capitalised on this moment, ultimately defeating Samsook and advancing to the quarter-finals.
The quarter-final match proved to be another test of his skill, but Seedat maintained his composure against a newcomer to heyball, showcasing his experience and strategic prowess.
His journey led him to the finals, where he faced Nicola Rossouw, a formidable opponent fresh off her stint representing South Africa at the Heyball Championships in Poland.
In a closely contested match, he displayed remarkable poise, executing a series of impressive shots that ultimately clinched the victory. “Nicola gave me a run for my money, but I managed to hold my nerve and play the shots I needed to win,” he commented after the match.
The heyball league continues to thrive, showcasing the passion and talent of players like Faizel , who sits now in fourth position with 58 points.
