Mila’s journey into martial arts began in a moment of inspiration. While watching judo at the Olympics on television with her father, he posed a simple question: “What do you say, would you like to try it?”
Mila enthusiastically agreed and her father began teaching her some fundamental moves.

The next day, he found a nearby dojo for her to explore, and from the moment she stepped onto the mat, she was hooked. This initial experience ignited a passion that led her to delve deeper into various martial arts.

She has continually sought to challenge herself, often competing against boys, though recent regulations have prohibited this. “If I can deal with nerves and perform in front of a crowd, then I believe there’s nothing I can’t achieve in life if I set my mind to it.”

Mila credits her success to a strong support system that includes her parents, coaches, and training partners at Bears Wrestling Club at Marks Parks Sports Club who have stood by her side throughout her journey.

Preparation for competitions is crucial for Mila and she focuses on maintaining her weight for her division, ensuring she is on target two weeks before the event.

“Unless my coach wants me to implement a specific technique we’ve been working on, I don’t do anything too special before a competition.” Instead, she drills fundamental skills to ensure she is ready to perform at her best.

Mila draws inspiration from several role models in the martial arts community including Amit Elor in wrestling, Daria Bilodid in judo, Ffion Davis and Mayssa Bastos in jiu-jitsu, and Janja Garnbret in rock climbing. “They are all incredible.”
As Mila continues to excel in wrestling and judo, her story serves as an inspiration to young athletes everywhere, proving that with passion, resilience, and support, the sky is the limit.
