The Johannesburg Bowls Association held its annual awards to celebrate excellent bowls players.

Among many winners that were celebrated on the day, Victor Siphali has won numerous titles over the last few years and was honoured with the Bowler of the Year at the Johannesburg Bowls Club’s annual awards. The awards were held at the Morningside Country Club on August 21. This award was undoubtedly a well-deserved one with Siphali being runner-up in the Open Masters Singles Championship against Jason Evans on August 21, losing by a mere three points (18–21). “The Johannesburg Bowls Association (JBA) Masters singles is an extremely prestigious event in which players of a top calibre are invited to play and are generously sponsored by Perfect Delivery whose contributions to our district and bowls is much appreciated,” said Rob Zimmerman, president of the Johannesburg Bowls Association.

Siphali, who is now 45 years old, started his bowling career in 2010. He has been playing as a member of the Bryanston Sports Club under the mentorship of Prince Neluonde, another talented bowler of the Johannesburg Bowls Association. “Bryanston Sports Club has produced some top-class bowlers and are always eager to host finals for a lot of our district competitions which they do so without hesitation and most efficiently,” added Zimmerman.
Congratulations went to the Bryanston Sports Club as they were honoured with the Club of the Year award.

Siphali only ever played tennis at school level and never really exceeded at any other sport until he was introduced to bowls. He has many accolades and a good record as he has won his club the Singles Men’s title three times during his bowls career. Siphali is an inter-district bowler in the open side and has been a medal winner for 2021.
