Title fights galore

LINDEN – Local boxers prepare for upcoming title fights.

The Alan Toweel Boxing Gym is in full motion once again with major fights lined up for its fighters.

On 28 May, Tshifhiwa Munyai, the South African lightweight champion will defend his SA title against Khaya Busakwa, who is the current Gauteng lightweight champ, and the mandatory challenger for the title.

On the same bill, Toweel’s protégé Rofhiwa Nemushungwa and Trevor Nghonyama will be fighting.

This is a must-win for Nemushungwa as it will put him in line for the SA bantamweight title.

These fights will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre and Munyai’s title fight will be live on SABC 2.

Another exciting event Toweel is looking forward to is the rematch between Akani ‘Prime’ Phuzi and Johnny Muller for the WBA pan-African cruiserweight title.

This fight will take place on 19 June at Emperors Palace under the Golden Gloves banner, live on SuperSport.

Akani lost his first attempt against the vastly experienced campaigner Muller on a unanimous points decision but Toweel believes the experience that Akani gained in their first fight and the experience that he will gain in their second fight will be priceless.

On the same bill, undefeated heavyweight Wilhelm Nebe will be featured, having his fifth professional fight against Jean Pierre Steenkamp.

Toweel is also excited that his super middleweight, Frank Rodrigues is currently the number one rated challenger for the SA title and exciting news will be announced soon as to when that fight will take place.
