Protea Bowling Club All Blacks look to end trophy drought

EMMARENTIA – Regardless of the outcome, the Protea Bowl Club, its players, management and supports are proud of the team for reaching the finals of the Johannesburg Bowling Association’ Wednesday League.

The Protea Bowling Club All Blacks are gearing up for the finale of the Johannesburg Bowling Association’ Wednesday League.

The players of the Protea Bowling Club All Blacks are looking forward to engraving their names into the history books of the Johannesburg Bowling Association (JBA) as they prepare themselves for the final of this season’s Wednesday League. The final will also give the team – consisting of Lawrence Mokgoa, Wiskey Mushwana, Jacob Utlwanang Moutloatse, Lucas Mpodu and Thomas Tshikos – a chance to bring home their first piece of silverware since they competed in the 2013 final.

Having committed themselves to training every chance they have and ensuring they are ready for the competition, they set a goal to return to their Emmarentia-based lawns with the trophy. Team captain Mushwana said, “We are ready for the final and we can’t wait to be given the chance to try and win the trophy to bring it to our home grounds.”

The season got off to a dicey start, according to Moutloatse, but they made the necessary changes to avoid a disappointing season. Moutloatse said, “The start wasn’t too good for us but we were able to make it into the last eight. We continued to improve and eventually made it as the top four teams and now we will be in the final.”

The final, which will take place at Bedfordview Bowling Club on 28 April, is expected to be the most intense game of bowls the All Blacks have faced but they are confident of their abilities. Mokgoa said, “We have worked very hard to make it to this position but the work isn’t over yet. We need to make sure we have a great game to win it all and our competition won’t be easy on us.”

Regardless of the outcome the Protea Bowl Club, its players, management and supports are proud of the team for making it this far. The club’s owner Max Hassler said, “We as the Protea Bowling Club are extremely proud of the team for everything they have achieved. All but Skipper Tshikos had no experience of bowling before they started the club but have learnt everything they need to know to make it to the finals once again.”

The club wished the All Blacks well and look forward to supporting them in all they participate in this year.
