Kinetik Tennis Academy is running again at full speed

This after Tennis South Africa (TSA) relaxed its regulations further under lockdown Level 2, and the academy based at Fairland Tennis Club has seen more players sign up as a result.

The sound of tennis balls being smashed by rackets rings out all day long at Kinetik Tennis Academy.

This after Tennis South Africa (TSA) relaxed its regulations further under lockdown Level 2, and the academy based at Fairland Tennis Club has seen more players sign up as a result.

“We are very happy to be back playing after a long break during lockdown,” said the academy’s director of tennis, Jean de Lange.

“We have seen that the parents of players have been very keen to get their children moving again. We have had a massive intake of players at the academy since non-contact sports were allowed in Level 3, because many of the other sports were still not available.”

He added that even the adults division had seen newcomers – those who used to play the sport and have taken it up again, and those who felt the need to start a new sport.

“We adhered to all safety protocols TSA specified and they have since relaxed a bit under lockdown Level 2. We have hand sanitisers, social distancing, face masks and temperature checks. Only the coaches picked up the balls at the start but we are back to normal now.”

Even leagues and tournaments are up and running again.

There is a night league for adults, where people can enter teams of three to play for bragging rights.

Each evening session only lasts three hours a week, so adults with busy lifestyles can balance their time and know exactly when they will have finished their matches. The academy also sends youngsters to its Mini-Masters tournament at Olivedale Tennis Club.

The tennis club also participates in the Bundes League for the top men and women players in Joburg, which is held at Ellis Park.
