Tennis returns with Douglas Mumba Tennis Academy

JOBURG – Tennis South Africa's regulations have relaxed a little at each stage in the lockdown, and also as the tennis community discovered what was safe to do and what was not.

The Douglas Mumba Tennis Academy has received the green light to resume training.

The academy has branches at Northcliff Country Tennis Club, Ferndale, Randpark Golf Club and Roosevelt Park.

“I am happy to be back and the youngsters too,” academy owner Douglas Mumba said.

“Staying at home for so long was a challenge for most players. I have found most players and parents of the players have been happy to return to training. The lockdown has affected many financially, so some people have not had as many lessons as they would have liked since coming back.”

He added that having started the academy at Northcliff Country Club, most of his clients were in that area, so branching out to new areas in recent months had not been easy, but he managed to do so.

This coupled with the challenge of ensuring all players were safe from contracting the virus.

“It’s a new normal we have to get used to – people wearing masks when they arrive and having to sanitise. We must keep social distancing and it is mandatory to sanitise between every drill or lesson.”

He said Tennis South Africa’s regulations have relaxed a little at each stage in the lockdown, and also as the tennis community discovered what was safe to do and what was not.
