Two Proteas men’s cricketers contract Covid-19

JOBURG – Coronavirus testing at culture camp sees two players test positive.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has confirmed that two Proteas men’s cricketers have tested positive for Covid-19. This after the country’s cricket governing body oversaw 50 tests relating to the virus conducted on players and support staff attending the team’s culture camp in Skukuza from 18 to 22 August.

“The testing is in line with fulfilling the organisation’s obligation and commitment to control the spread of the virus,” a statement by CSA said. “Two players have returned positive tests. They will unfortunately miss the camp as they have begun the isolation protocol. While both players are asymptomatic, CSA’s medical team will continue to regularly follow up with them to ensure their health and well-being.”

These players will not be replaced on the camp and others who are unable to attend the camp will follow its proceedings virtually. Others who are unable to attend include former captain, Faf du Plessis, whose second child will be born imminently. Proteas team culture camp squad:
