Gymanst to live-stream Tokyo routine

NEWLANDS – Now is the time to plan, says star gymanst Caitlin Rooskrantz.

Local star gymnast, Caitlin Rooskrantz (18) will live-stream the routine she would have performed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on 2 August.

The Olympic Games was moved to July and August next year in light of the coronavirus pandemic and there is still a chance the event could be scrapped entirely. Rooskrantz, who qualified for the Olympics, would have been the first South African to compete in artistic gymnastics at the Olympics in 15 years.

Through the sponsorship of Sanlam, Rooskrantz will perform her bar routine at an undisclosed location in Joburg on the day she would have performed in Japan.”It will be the routine I would have done at Japan this year, but it is not the routine I will do if the Olympics happens next year,” she told Northcliff Melville Times.”We will live-stream it at a well-known location to be revealed on the day. It’s nice to still have a chance to ‘compete’ for South Africa and show people what I can do.”

The streaming will be on a Sanlam online campaign site called Now is the Time to Plan, which can be found here https://www.sanlam.co.za/campaigns/nowisthetimetoplan/Pages/default.aspx”I want people to know that now is the time to plan,” Rooskrantz added.”Part of being a high-level athlete is that you must be able to change your plans. You need to be flexible and have alternatives because there will always be challenges. But you must remember your overall goal.”
